Tw - self harm

I'm looking for a counsellor/therapist/psychiatrist/clinic for a very vulnerable young person who has become chronically disabled after self harming. NHS are doing their best but after 5 months it has really amounted to nothing so we need to go private. I have contacted a few registered providers but most declined because the patient can't speak and needs constant medical care. The Priory responded positively, but I don't have £20K to spare so I'm really hoping someone can give me some pointers on where to go from here.

Bumping this because I haven't had any responses yet and I know there are many of you out there with meaningful advice to give

Bumping for you.

I very much doubt you will find the level of support you require for your relative within the private sector that is substantially cheaper than £20k.

Are there any support groups who may be able to suggest options ?

Sorry you are going through this. If you think they need to be sectioned take them to a&e and refuse to leave or ring the crisis team (I know they aren’t very good) they can have someone out within 72 hours if they are in a crisis. For therapy you can self refer to talking therapies and they can sign post you to a service which is suitable for you. Private will cost fortunes. Hope you get sorted

Thank you for responding. We're a bit beyond that point, we've done it all and five months in no one seems to know what to do.

There may not be anything anyone can do.

Generally private services are better if the problem is mild but they're aren't very good at severe problems because bottom line they are a business that wants to make money and it's hard to make money off the person if they're very unwell.
Might it be helpful for you to say a little more about what's going on?
You might get advise from people about other things you can do or say or try?

I sent the OP's post to my DD who is an experienced psychotherapist and she commented: "This is very tricky - be easier to suggest if we knew how old the young person is/the nature of the self harm/how contained future risks are/what other supports are in place? Plenty of therapists can work perfectly effectively without language, but it would have to be sensitive to age and cognitive ability."

So I guess we need more info.

Is the young person always unable to speak? Or is it illness related? My ds was unable to speak for a time due to severe anxiety and depression.
