Calling in sick with anxiety..

I am on week 4 of sertraline and feeling awful.. as a result I have made a lot of mistakes at work which makes me feel even worse. Is it ok to call in sick for the next few days until I feel a bit less overwhelmed and a bit more stable, even though the anxiety about work is kind of my fault? Do people do this?

The background is that I have been on sertraline since august last year (and was off work for 7 weeks) for anxiety but stupidly had a mix up with my prescription so was off it for about 6 weeks and have had to restart. As well I am sure I have PMDD as my MH is just so bad pre/on period - which was last week.

It is not your fault. You are unwell and it has affected your work. I think you need to be honest with work about why you need to take time off. Try to get signed off officially by your doctor. Does your work have an occupational health department? If so, you should contact them to arrange a meeting and for them liase with your manager about a graduated return and/or accommodations to your role that you might need short term and long term. I hope you feel better soon 💐...

I agree with pp, it’s not your fault and it sounds reasonable to take some time off sick and yes people definitely do Thankfully I have a supportive workplace, where people can do this without judgment. I hope you do too.

The higher ups at work at hit and miss to be honest - sometimes nice about MH, sometimes I think they just don’t get it. Which is probably why I’ve ended up in such a state! But the manager I spoke to today was fine about it ☺️

That is good that you have found someone understanding at work. All the best for your recovery 🍀...
