The Joy of Volunteering

The older I get, the more I realise how much fulfilment there is in giving something. Sorry. That probably sounds like virtue signalling of the worst kind but my point is to share the experience of volunteering and its benefits and possibilities.

I’m also interested in hearing about the experience of others and what they get from it.

I’m posting here because I’m volunteering at Mind. I live with social and generalised anxiety, and was diagnosed with ADHD the year before I turned 50.

Is it allowed to talk about volunteering opportunities here? Or is there a more suitable place to do so?

I seem to recall MIND itself saying that volunteering was good for us. It really is. I know when I am giving, because I can choose what voluntary work I enjoy, I feel happy and fulfilled.

"Last Christmas" the film has the main character saying, "Because helping makes you happy ".

Volunteering is something I've been trying to make myself look into this year. I'm pretty indecisive, so if there's some kind of database of volunteering opportunities by area, I'd be interested to learn more.

I would certainly like to hear more. I am looking to get into volunteering myself. I think it would be good for my mental health, and also I am currently going through feelings of loneliness and would like to make some new connections.
