Survival techniques for when your partner has depression

Ds is going through a particularly bad episode of depression. Hardly sleeping, crying and moaning. Totally overwhelmed. He’s been depressed for years but it is only since the end of last year that he went to see his GP. He is on 30mg mirtazapine. He did try telephone counselling but it was hopeless. We have three children, one has complex needs and doesn’t go to school because there isn’t a school to meet needs. We’re therefore always at home in what is becoming quite a difficult environment. Dh is still working but he is self employed and works from home. I need ideas of how to get my dh better but also how to protect me and family whilst doing this.

I don’t mean ‘moaning’ as in complaining about stuff. I mean as in groaning and breathing fast and heavily.

Does he want to get better?

When and how did the depression begin?

yes he does want to get better but I would say he has had generalised anxiety for at least 7 years. We do have quite a lot of stressors and they are his focus. The positives are lost on him at the moment

What happened 7 years ago?
