Sertraline and night sweats

Hello,

I am week 4 of 50mg of sertraline. This is the first time I've ever taken an ssri medication.
I have had night sweats every night to the point it wakes me up as my top is wet. In the day i also get some cold sweats, when im actually chilly. Does this side effect get better over time? I'm already on hrt which stopped my hormonal night sweats.
Thankfully the nausea has subsided.

Thanks 💚

I think it varies from person to person, but I'm afraid I had persistently bad night sweats on sertraline. I switched to fleecy bedding, as that seems to soak up the dampness so that the fabric doesn't stick to you horribly. I also have plenty of lightweight very washable nightwear for quick changes in the night.

Hiya, I have been taking sertraline for several years now and I am very sorry to say that for me, the sweats have been a constant side effect of sertraline. The benefit of the drug far outweighs the sweats as a side effect however and so I continue to take it. I have tried another drug instead but that was a disaster so I went back to the sertraline. Like you, I get the night sweats - wake up soaked - but I also have the day ones. I am so hot, especially in the mornings when trying to dry my hair that I have the windows fully open and my husband goes mad!! Grin I am on 100mg at the moment (but have previously been on 200mg) and I wouldn't say the sweats get better or worse depending on the dosage. I would say it's the same. Fingers crossed you have a different experience to me! Flowers

I started on this in September, they’ve definitely eased over time. I did 25mg for three months, and then up to 50. I barely notice them now, maybe once or twice a week, but I’m also on HRT so may be connected to my hormone levels anyway.

I'm up to 100mg now and still getting nightly night sweats which wakes me up. I was hoping this would settle down. So frustrating as I struggle with sleep anyway 😫 any advice?

I took sertraline for around 18 months and had constant night sweats where I was having to change my pyjamas in the night. I couldn't cope with it anymore so came off sertraline. I'm now talking Escitalopram and have zero side effects on this.

Hi there 💚

Yes, night sweats are actually a pretty common side effect in the early weeks of taking Sertraline. They’re caused by changes in serotonin levels, which can affect your body’s temperature regulation. For most people, this tends to improve after 4–6 weeks as your system adjusts, but it can sometimes take a bit longer. Try to keep your bedroom cool, wear light sleepwear, and stay hydrated — that can make a real difference. If it doesn’t ease soon, talk to your doctor; sometimes adjusting the dose or timing (like taking it in the morning) can help.

I’ve been on Zoloft (Sertraline) myself for about a year now, and I also had night sweats at the start — they gradually went away after about five weeks. I order mine from this trusted pharmacy 👉 healway.co.uk/sertraline-zoloft, and it’s worked perfectly for me. It’s really helped balance my mood and reduce anxiety without any lasting side effects. Once your body adapts, you’ll likely start to feel those positive effects too. 💙
