At the start of November I was really unwell, long hospital stays, emergency surgeries, haemorrhaging & situations where I thought that was it. I’m currently suffering from PSTD, I am scared of the day that’s not even came, having nightmares/flash backs. I just seem to be easily triggered and I’m scared I’m never going to feel “normal” again. Has anyone else experienced this, what helped you? Any tips whilst I navigate this hard time … thanks.

When something traumatic happens a part of your mind is 'assigned' to figure out exactly what happened and why, simply because it was so terrible that it must be avoided at all costs in the future and that can only be done by understanding every aspect of the event(s).

If it's something you can rationalise then your mind can easily put it behind you - the accident happened because the road was icy/the other driver was texting, etc. If, however, there's no explanation within your grasp then your mind will keep on going over all the tiny details in order to try to find all those (unknowable) answers - hence the nightmares and flashbacks.

If it's not possible to speak to the medical professionals who treated you at the time - they may be able to fill in the gaps - consider remedial hypnosis to 'stand down' that part of your subconscious, it's excellent for trauma and PTSD.

Trauma focused therapy can help with PTSD, EMDR is good too.
