Irrational fear

For around the past year I have had a really irrational fear of explosions. I'm not really sure how to explain it properly but for example if I open the microwave door I fear it's going to explode or if it's really quiet I feel on edge that something (ie a fire or loud bang) or something really bad might happen.

When my general anxiety/stress levels feel heightened this bad feeling or thoughts can cross my mind a good 5/10 times a day.

Is this normal? I dont feel it affects my day to day but it can feel quite unnerving and puts me on edge even though consciously I know its irrational. Is there help I can seek as to what this is or to work out why this is?

When we are feeling chronically stressed the chemicals in our brain change and so our mind is more likely to cling to obsessive thoughts that we would otherwise not pay much attention to. I would let these intrusive thoughts come and try to counter balance them, for eg if you have a thought that the microwave will explode when you open the door, think what is the likelyhood of that happening on a scale of 0-10, it will be 0, also have you ever heard of this happening to anyone? The answer will be no. I know I haven't . Once you get into the habit of challenging your thoughts you will start to lose your fear of them and see them for what they are, just thoughts and not reality.
