Seeing psychiatrist tomorrow

I was depressed the end of last year but in December I started to feel better so I stopped taking my medication the week before Christmas. Today I was due to have my depot (aripiprazole) but I didn't go, so they phoned me. I explained my reason for not having it anymore but they phoned back saying I now need to see the psychiatrist tomorrow.

I'm not on a CTO and I know they can't force me to take medication but I think they are going to try tomorrow. I really don't see the point in going as I've already explained why I'm not taking them anymore. I can't get out of going either as they are collecting me for the appointment.

What do I do?

Aripiprazole by depot injection is not a treatment for depression, so your mood should not have any impact on your treatment with that drug. Why did you stop taking it?

I take medication for a physical health need, I feel much better since I’ve been taking it. I know, however, that if I stop taking it I will be some unwell again. Some medication needs to be taken long term.

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow. As others have said, the depot aripiprazole is not for depression, but other symptoms. I hope you can have a full and frank discussion with them.

I've stopped taking all my meds not just the aripiprazole. I stopped taking them as I don't feel I need them anymore and I've had enough of my brain being controlled by other people. Since I've not been taking them my brain works so much faster and I can think more clearly.

I have plans to go back to studying and return to university this year. I need my brain to be working at full strength and not feeling like it's full of glue, which is how it is when I'm on meds.

By taking medication you are not allowing your brain to be controlled by other people. You have been prescribed medication to manage symptoms, which are likely to return if you stop taking the medication. In some cases there's a rebound effect where stopping medication abruptly can actually cause symptoms.
All meds have side effects but in theory, relief of your symptoms will make the unpleasant side effects manageable.

Your doctor will be worried that you are not cooperating with treatment. You need to see your doctor and discuss any symptoms you're experiencing and what side effects you're willing to put up with.

Best of luck with that tomorrow.
