Memory Loss in ADHD

Hi everyone, not sure if i have put this post in the right place

I'm looking for experiences of memory loss and if this could be possibly linked to ADHD

My friend (male 40s) struggles with remembering things. Its caused some issues with us as he forgets to reply to texts, when we've discussed making arrangements he forgets having the conversation. He has forgotten things from his past, not everything in a situation just a detail here and there. His daughter doesnt live with him but he says he doesn't think about her unless she's with him and he cant understand why.

One of his grandparents had dementia but not until very old age and he is really worrying whether this is early onset.

I've been having a read of things to try and help him and i know i cant diagnose but im wondering if he has adhd. He is a fidget, impulsive, impatient ........ lots of the typical things that come up. He suffers with depression (esp in winter)

Does anyone relate to this? could it be ADHD. Thank you x

It's a shame you haven't had any responses as this is really interesting.

I'm not familiar with ADHD, but I'd say whether his memory issues are ADHD-related or not, does he want them investigated?

If so, could you offer to support him attend his GP if he'd find that helpful?

My son had adhd and has a very sharp memory. We suspect his father has it too and he is a forgetful and an out of sight out of mind kind of person.

Depression can be linked with memory problems. Especially if he does not sleep well either.

I have adhd and I'm very forgetful. I'm also very out of sight out of mind, people don't tend to exist unless they're in front of me. I've always been this way, I'm a good friend and a good relative, and my loved ones make allowances for my lack of recall.

I must add, I've been medicated for a few weeks now, and also taking vitamin b12 and I have noticed an improvement in my memory...

My eldest is a adult and she had adhd and her memory is ok, she's medicated and wasn't diagnosed till a few years ago as she couldn't concentrate on things.
My teenage DS diabetes at 6 and not meditated also has autism, his memory is terrible, he does better with structure, so get up, have breakfast, check phone, wash ,dress, teeth. School bag that sort of thing but he can't remember people's faces that he's seen every day for months but can remember they have a green keyring. We have reminders on his phone check homework, pe kit, reply texts and it helps

There's a Montreal Dementia test online which was used to diagnose my DB, if you search for it you can test DH. Must say I would probably fail at some questions but I am much older than DH.

I’d say it can’t be both ADHD and dementia. The first thing I’d ask is, has he always been like this? If so then there’s a vague change it could be ADHD but no chance it’s dementia. If it’s recent, then there’s a vague chance it could be dementia but no chance it’s ADHD.
But it doesn't have to BE anything - just the way he is.
