He's tiling our front step.

And instead of finding the middle and working his way out so there's say, 5 tiles and then at either side he needs to cut a small slither of tile to fill and balance it he's started at one side so there's 5 whole tiles and on one side only there's going to be half a tile.

I've put this in MH because Im on the spectrum and it's actually making me want to crybut I feel like I can't say anything as he's already cut them all to shape!!

It's going to drive me nuts for years

This would make me want to cry too, op. Argh!

You'll stop noticing eventually? AngrySad

They're really heavily patterned too which makes it 10x worse than if they were plain somehow!

Tell him now, so he can fix it before it's more hassle to change it.

endofthelinefinally · 05/12/2023 13:59

That would drive me mad too OP. There is a right and a wrong way to do things.

Barnowlsandbluebells · 05/12/2023 14:00

Tell him to re do it. He hasn't done the job properly.

SpacePotato · 05/12/2023 14:00

That would annoy me too. He needs to centre the tiles he has then go get another to cut in half for the sides.

I think you mean "tell him now, so he can hand you the tools so you can get on with it yourself"

😛

Get new tiles and start again?

No, I meant what I said. He's doing the job. If he refuses to change it, then maybe at that point the OP might want to tell him that she will redo it herself.

HappyAsASandboy · 05/12/2023 14:07

What do you mean he's cut them all? Surely he will only have cut one, to go on the end of the row?

user1497207191 · 05/12/2023 14:07

That would even affect people who aren't on the spectrum.

BottleRocketInTheSky · 05/12/2023 14:09

I’d tell him before he starts putting them down. Or do it yourself. Or get a professional in.

ReviewingTheSituation · 05/12/2023 14:11

If it's not finished yet, then get the tiles up and shift them! This is going to be there for years to come and will bother you every time you leave the house. And would bother me if I was planning to buy it in years to come.

Please don't stick with the random half tile on the end.

Cheeesus · 05/12/2023 14:12

Is there room for a plant or a shoe scraper at one side? Then you could cover it up. But o agree it would be better to stop him now.

Person doing the job calls the shots.

I renovated an entire flat with a partner hovering in the background "advising". Agreeing beforehand the particulars of how a job should be done is one thing, but expecting a spouse or partner to do the work, then thinking you can step in part way through and tell them how, precisely, they should be doing it is another, and deserves nothing but short shrift.

If you are that fussy, do the job yourself in the first place.

fedupandstuck · 05/12/2023 14:16

Aaanyway....

@Tilesaandtiles better to tell him sooner rather than later. It shouldn't be too hard to correct.
