Itching all over on sertraline?

I’ve been on sertraline for 6 weeks, 2 weeks ago the GP upped me from 50-100mg. The past few days I’ve been itching uncontrollably all over from head to toe. Has anyone else experienced anything like this in Sertraline or any other SSRIs? I’m also really sensitive to the cold and get a rash when I’m outside for too long. Just want to know I’m not going mad!

Have just seen your message,
. Yes it makes me itch and gives me rashes. I have neem on it 12 weeks. I also have neuropathy and it makes that worse. I am reducing from 50mg to 25mg, though missed a day then did the next day at 12-5 mg. It has made me feel more agitated overall.

Do you mind me asking what kind of rash you get? My DD has had her dose upped and has almost bite- like symptoms.

Christ yes

But as I was put on it for the menopause I never connected the dots until I came off it this year - I just stopped after 5 years

No rash but Id wake up scratching myself till I was drawing blood and its only this post thats made me realise thats not happened in months

No rash for me. Thankfully!
Poor you
I seem to get heartburn now though

Fierydes · 25/12/2023 17:03

small fierce burning type rashes, mostly on hands and lower arms. Like I said, I do have neuropathy as a result of past chemo so there's a crossover with that but now I'm on this much lower dose of Sertraline the major itching/ rashes have subsided. I think this med works wonderfully for some people, but, like any med, not for others. I seem to react massively in some way to anti-depressants and related medications.

Yes, that makes sense. When I was going through the menopause -and before- I was put on citalopram, and eventually took myself off it - I think what I really needed what HRT. Looking back now, in my sixties, I wish I had given that a go. The discussions around it are much better now. At 47 I wanted testosterone to help with my sex-drive and general blah as I'd heard it could help - a man doctor told me to go to a 'lady doctor'. I never bothered. I was so envious the other day, waiting for a Sertraline prescription, standing beside a woman of 50-something picking up her testosterone! Off the itch topic but somehow related.

@Cocothebear Hi there. In one way I am so relieved it’s not just me. I thought I was going bonkers. Like u had the dose upped from 50 to 100mg about 4 weeks ago and I began to itch about 3 weeks ago very subtle to begin with thought it was because of jumper and skin being dry due to winter. Omg this week I have had an unbelievable itch that is drawing blood and I have marks on my arms over scratching. My skin felt inflamed from the inside out my skin was hot around the area I was scratching I started taking antihistamines and using Aveeno wash with oat and moisturiser for severe dryness. It is helping a bit. How are you doing now?
