Crisis team - pros and cons?

My CMHT are worried about me (doctor and key worker visited today). I find the crisis team stressful - not knowing who will be coming or when (I have carers which I don't want them to clash with). And it causes conflict as they disagree with the voices. So I've said I'd rather not, and they've said to think about it. But I can't think of any positives about having the crisis team visiting, can anyone think of any?

Well I was given the choice of crisis team or hospital...I still don't want to see them, but I'll have to see how it goes.

Maybe consider how the crisis team might help you / how the hospital might help you?

I think the crisis team will just introduce more stress into my life - difficult having anyone in the house. Hospital is an awful place to be.

Do you think a medication adjustment/change might help?
Is there a concern for your safety?

I've had a meds change - yesterday they increased my antidepressant and antipsychotic, and gave me 28 lorazepam. I think they are concerned about my safety, but it's very hard having people visit me.

If it keeps you out of hospital then it has to be a good thing? I know how awful hospital/mental health units can be. Hopefully it will only be short visits? If you are unwell then something needs to be done to help you, having visits by the crisis team is probably the best option.

I don’t know much about the situation from your post but often things can be made better by reviewing medication and accessing therapy through the mental health team.

I understand, I find the crisis team really unsettling and different people say different things so I always end up so stressed with their visits. But it is better than hospital in my experience. I narrowly escaped hospital recently and was so relieved as my last hospital stay was five weeks and tough. Good luck with them, are you safe?

Lovemusic82 · 27/10/2023 17:48

Cross posted. I see you have had a medication increase. Sometimes it takes a while to adjust, maybe they just want to keep an eye on wether the medication change is making a difference? They just want to do what’s best for you and they want to make sure you are safe.

SnowyMouse · 27/10/2023 17:48

Thanks @Lovemusic82 That's the only reason I said a tentative yes. @Scutterbug I agree, they are very unsettling and say different things. You're right, definitely better than hospital. I'm not very safe at the moment, I don't want to go into details.

I guess it is good they are taking things seriously. I’m undergoing a change of antipsychotic (risperidone was on aripiprizole) and it’s having a huge effect on me. Take care of yourself x

I hope the visit to your home today is respectful & helpful.

SnowyMouse · 27/10/2023 18:13

@Scutterbug I hope the change works out for you.

Crisis team is more an adhoc short term service from my experience. When my family member had them they did emphasise that they don’t want people to become too dependent on them. Different people turning up and as soon as they saw a slight improvement they started to space out their visits. Then regardless the state of recovery the service ended at sixth week. They are an adequate service for some but not for medium/long term support. Can your psychiatrist refer you to something of a longer term?

@SnowyMouse Thinking of you. I hope your situation has improved. Flowers

Hopefully things will improve quickly, and you will be home again soon.

Lovemusic82 · 30/10/2023 22:02

So sorry SnowyMouse I know hospital is awful but hopefully they will get you medication sorted and make sure you are safe, sometimes a change in medication takes a while to settle. I hope you get home soon and everything improves for you.

blackcandle · 30/10/2023 23:08

@SnowyMouseYou will be well again once your med s sorted. Please be patient.
