Antidepressants stopping working after six months - anyone found a way round this?

I've been on every SSRI going and now an SNRI. They work fine for around six months then the depression returns. The anti anxiety effect is lasting well on the SNRI, but I'm very depressed again.

Has anyone ever managed to find a way of treating depression that is successful long term? I can't afford talking therapy.

You might need a different medication or to increase the dose. They can become ineffective after awhile. I’ve heard of this from loads of friends and a new med or dosage usually did the trick. Definitely talk to your doctor.

What's the root cause of the depression?

What's the root cause of the depression?

ADHD, autism, abusive childhood, shit life, currently worrying about my autistic son and how he'll earn a living in adulthood, state of the country.

I'm worried about increasing and increasing and the same thing happening. I just don't know why it stops working.

I had the same with sertraline. I’m on the highest dose now and have the same issue. The only thing that works for me is diazepam but I take too much of it regularly and that’s not good either.

@flufferknutter I’ve heard it from a lot of people, so I think stopping working is just a common problem.

My son had sertraline for awhile and it was great till it wasn’t. His doctor piggybacked Wellbutrin but it wasn’t effective so now he takes Cymbalta. I’m always worried it will stop working as he’s doing brilliantly on it.

I’d definitely consult your doctor to see what your options are.
