First counselling session

Tomorrow I am having my first counselling session. I say first but what I really mean is my first in years.

When I've had counselling before, I've found it really difficult. I struggle to pinpoint what the problem is and veer off all over the place. I also find that because my mood changes quite drastically from day to day, that if I'm not in my lowest place, it's difficult to articulate my issues. I'm also very good at masking my feelings.

I've made the decision recently to try counselling again because I'm sick of crying almost every day in the work toilets.

Is it best to have a clear focus on what you want to talk about?

I find it hard when they ask what you hope to get out of this therapy. I mean obviously I want my issues fixed so I can feel normal! I don’t know how they’re going to do it, that’s their job. What are they expecting me to say?

you could say that “I want to feel normal”

OP the paragraph you’ve written is quite articulate so perhaps start there.

How about just saying that you are having counselling to try and manage your changing moods? And then let the sessions unfold like that. I agree that I think your first paragraph says a lot, just go from there
