Antidepressants/ anti anxiety , when did you feel better?

Just the above really?
I’ve had a bit of a rollercoaster over the last few months. I’m four weeks into sertraline. (I know, early days still) I’m seeing improvements, but still feel very muddled up and agitated, also frustrated that I’m not ‘bouncing back’. I just don’t feel like ‘me’. Curious how long it took people to find themselves after a rough time with help of medication?

It took me a while - usually takes about 6 - 8 weeks for any real and lasting effect. Be aware also that you might need to change meds and find one (& a dose) that fits for you.

Don't be afraid to go back to your GP / Mental Health team if you are still having bad symptoms though.

Good luck xx

I'd say at least 6 weeks to start feeling positive effects. It's a gradual thing as well, I don't remember a lightbulb day that I suddenly felt much better. Sick with it lovely, you'll get there xx

Hey @TreeHuggerMum1
Firstly well done for taking the huge steps on starting anti depressants, I know it’s not always easy.

for me, I take 50mg sertraline daily and have done since June and it was around August I started feeling better and managing my anxiety/depression better.

for me I found it’s helped quieten my thoughts so I can focus on more mindful activities and practice a bit more gratitude and have more of a general positive mindset which is where I found they then therefore helped me.

any questions please let me know
sending love and hugs 🤗

Thanks all.
@Anontocomment it’s my third AD since July. I’ve had two bad experiences (one of which left me suicidal) so I’m desperately hoping this one will work. 🤞🏻
@Bohobetty0 i started on 25mg and dosed up to 50 after a few weeks but it just blew my socks off, so Dr thinks I’m better on low doses. I’m highly sensitive apparently 🤪
@TheBuggerlugs we’ve been bouncing around the crazy train all summer haven’t we? I really hope you’re on the mend and coming out the other end of this soon. Xx

It was in phases.

I did have a 'lightbulb day' when suddenly the sky seemer more blue, the sun was sunnier and everything felt better.

However I was by no means fixed and had to do a lot of mental work to actually get better. But it does happen.

Bohobetty0 · 29/09/2023 17:33

I started on 25mg as well and did find the jump to 50mg quite a big one, main issue was it gave me horrible acid reflux.

By no means am I a doctor or do I know your personal situation however sometimes it’s worth sticking with it and understanding that your not supposed to feel how you did before and that’s the whole point and it can feel a bit scary sometimes when you don’t know how to feel or live a life without anxiety/depression etc.

however it goes without saying you know yourself better than anyone else and just do what you thinks best for you🤗

@Anontocomment >I'm just 6 weeks on duloxetine and my Dr says wait till 8 for full effect then we can change if it's not effective. I wish I knew it took time!

Anontocomment · 29/09/2023 23:03

@Dawn1331 try not to panic, you should start to see an improvement shortly, but if not, talk to your GP. Everyone is different and it takes time to get to a drug and dose that helps. Xx
