I've just started on ssri's. I didn't want to gone on them but accept its where I am at right now. Just wanted to know if anyone has used them short term to help get sorted and stayed of them.

And if so how did you get most out of them?

I have a fear of being stuck in them or stuck in a cycle of going in and off them.

I have anxiety about death and health following a couple of losses in last 4 years.

You need to use the time to do a lot of counselling and CBT work. And consider if there are things in your life eg relationships, work, lack of work/life balance that are making you worse and need to change.

Personally my main issue is work and although I've improved that, I can't fundamentally change it so they are staying until retirement.

@Bingbi I'm in the exact same situation as you. I didn't want to be on anything but I can't live terrified the whole time. I'm on week six of new meds with not much improvement but I'm assured week 8 will give the full effect.
Cbt didn't work for me but it had worked for others I know.
You deserve to live a happy life x

Yep. Took them for a year and then stopped. I did see a counselor during that time and there were lots of life changes.
Since then I have known I am prone to anxiety but have some strategies to deal with it. I have had more counseling more recently but didn’t feel like I needed the SSRIs again.

Thanks for your replies. I'm 12 days into ssri and already
Dy have had some breathing space from my anxieties. Makes me realise how much time and joy I have lost fretting about the what it's. I hope to use this time figure out my whys and learn some strategies to cope once I come off them.

Yup used them for a couple of years (prob only needed a year in retrospect but I was a bit nervous about stoppjng) for horrible post natal anxiety. That was over a decade ago now and never been in a state where I’ve felt I’ve needed them since. Health anxiety was a massive part of it, and though it dies recur a bit when I’m tired or otherwise stressed, it’s never been.more than a fraction of what it was pre- meds.
I totally get what you say about realising how much energy you’ve been using up being anxious once it eases off. Hope you continue to improve.
