I have a diagnosis of this. Was diagnosed back in 2019.
What sort of therapies and treatments have others found useful?
I am struggling and I am thinking I will need to pay for private treatment at some stage soon.

Is this borderline?

Dbt.

I've had Cognitive Behavioural Therapy over a number of years ago for depression, which has helped in how I look at things, instead of just black/white thinking.

I resort to having some top-up therapy sessions, every so often when on edge, and feeling my moods are a bit out of control or very low/high. A befriender, Mind or Samaritans can help, and sometimes a good GP just by listening.

I am on anti-anxiety meds, which I suppose help. I certainly notice, when I don't take them regularly.

Mindfulness or going to yoga, massage all help to relax a bit. Exercise is also recommended, if you are into that.

But, most of all, coming to accept yourself as being just okay, will help. Self-care and positive thinking are easy enough when in a good place. But, knowing when to ask for a bit of help or hand-holding is essential.
The goal is to remain a functioning person with BPD, and be fairly comfortable with it.

Hope some of this info helps you.

Thank you. ❤️
I am usually taking anti depressants and mood stabilisers but I am currently pregnant and due to hyperemesis I have been unable to keep my medication down and essentially I'm 'cold turkey '. It's been horrendous. The sickness has subsided a little now but the medication I was on - venlafaxine- makes me violently sick even when I take it a low dose.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and I have lost a stone and gained no weight yet.
I have perinatal mental health next week when I believe they will be reviewing my medication and I hope starting me on something new.
I do need help with my BPD once I have my baby, i can see the issues it is all causing. I am a single mum and terrified. I do really appreciate your reply. ❤️

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy is the type usually recommended for Borderline/ Emotionally Unstable personality.
DS 21 is diagnosed. he was referred to an NHS personality disorder clinic for DBT 1 year and 10 months ago. Still waiting for his 1st appointment.

spoonfuladay · 18/09/2023 09:02

@Jomummy1013 I've completed a course of dbt paid for myself. It's really useful and everyone can benefit from it. I don't have borderline,

XenoBitch · 18/09/2023 22:54

DBT. I have done the full year long program twice now. It was a hard slog, but it has kept me out of hospital and police cells.

squirrelslikenuts · 18/09/2023 23:18

Sorry to hear about the hyperemesis, it's an absolute nightmare together with an overactive thyroid. I had both, ending up in hospital for a bit. Try to survive on ginger beer and sprite, that will rehydrate you.

Eventually, you will get your body back, and be able to eat again.

Back to the BPD, remember you are functioning, reaching out for help, and you are loved. Be gentle with yourself, you are trying your best.
Take care of yourself.

I’ve looked into DBT, but haven’t booked anything as it’s hard to know which ones are legit. I search on Google and loads come up, but then I worry about who to sign up with. Not been offered any on NHS and been given a range of meds that haven’t worked, so I’m stuck living with it untreated.

I hope you have lots of support around you and I wish you well with finding the right treatment that works for you!

Mentalisation-based therapy (MBT)

There are quite a lot of DBT resources online. It's usually divided up into emotional regulation, grounding/ mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal skills
