Bipolar husband.. cheating

My husband of 10 years has bipolar and is currently having his second manic episode. The first was 3 years ago and he was sectioned due to being psychotic, it was quite bad.

As some may be aware, a symptom Of mania is engaging in risky behaviour such a risky sex, gambling etc.

I have caught him writing to 2 different women. Inappropriate conversations which sa married man in a happy relationship should be having and I want to go crazy at him and chuck him out. It loooks as though hes attempting to sleep with them.A small side of me feels is it the illness and not him?

He doesn't take medication and point blank refuses :(

So he’s not trying to make it right.

If he has previously been sectioned with psychosis, does he have ongoing contact with mental health services, and someone that you can contact? Is there a crisis plan, or any kind of plan that he (and you) have been involved in developing which sets out what to do if he has another manic episode.

Meant to say, given his previous history (and not being medicated), yes that does sound like it could be part of a manic episode. Have you noticed other symptoms as well?

He doesn't take medication and point blank refuses :(

I’d be breaking up with him for that alone.

Sorry, call me unsympathetic - but someone else’s mental health will never trump mine, not even my husband’s.

OP, he's not playing fair. He owes it to you (& himself!) to manage his illness.
He's not doing that.

In my opinion, staying with him in this situation goes way beyond 'in sickness & in health'. I'd leave him, sadly.

Having bipolar if he wants to be stable and well he must be on medication! It sounds like he’s not taking responsibility for his mental health. It’s never an excuse or a get out of jail free card to be like well it’s fine because I’m bipolar. No it isn’t. If he won’t get help maybe you need space, I love my husband but I couldn’t put up with it, if he chose not to help himself then what could I do? He should love you enough to seek help and take medication.
