Sertraline…alternative ?

I’ve been on Sertraline for the last six months and am due to see my GP shortly as she wants to slowly take me off them ☹️. I’m not happy about this but if she decides she still feels I should slowly come off them any there any alternatives ? I was actually thinking of St John Wort? Is there anything else more natural I could look at taking even….

Any advice welcome, thanks

If you do not feel ready to come off them then there is no reason you should be forced.

I’m nowhere close to come off them but am concerned she’ll suggest I cut down the dose.

She can suggest what she wants, stand firm. My GP took me off them years ago and I then had loads more years of anxiety. When I went back on 4 years ago my life changed. When they suggest coming off now I decline. Surely it’s like if you’re a diabetic or whatever, you need that to keep your chemicals in check.

Why does your GP want to take you off them? 6 months isn't very long.

Thanks both for your replies. I’ve never been on any anxiety medication before so this is all new to me if I’m honest. The GP felt 6 months was long enough but I know it’s not. Your post has made me think I need to stand firm.

I actually think I should have been on them a few years before but I was so apprehensive about even talking with my GP.

I've been on Sertraline for coming up to 3 years now. My GP is more than happy to keep prescribing them long term, as they work for me, and allow me to live the life I want. There's no reason you need to accept being taken off them, even if it is suggested.

Hi , I feel also that six months is way too soon to stop taking or even reduce your dose , especially if your feeling the benefit , I personally feel that's it's your body and mind and you know what's best xBear

Thanks everyone. I think that’s it, I need to live the life I want. Without them I just know I won’t be able to manage. I’m just coping now and not having anything to get me through things just scares me to half death.
