Coming off sertraline

I've been on sertraline for the past 2 years after previously being on it before. Last time I came off after 1 year and didn't need it again until 10 years later . This time though I've gained over 1 and half stone in weight Confused.. not sure if this is to do with the meds or peri menopause . So I'm considering trying to come off it as if the weight is caused by this I'd rather stop.
Anyone else been affected by the weight gain and was it easy to loose afterwards ?
It's been brilliant for me in terms of helping my anxiety but now I'm
Over that hurdle and calmer it's left me feeling a bit emotionless , lacking energy and lazy but again could be hormones !

Hi! I gained weight on sertraline, but I'm also post menopause, (no HRT) so it could be either as I've been on sertraline since I was perimenopausal. I'm actually three weeks in to tapering off, as I've been stable for more than a year now but side effects like poor sleep (it affects my REM phase), and pulsatile tinnitus in one ear makes me feel like I'd like to see how I am without it. It remains to be seen if weight will drop off! I was on 50 mgs, and dropped to 25 mgs for 3 weeks and about to drop to a quarter tablet daily, (approx 12.5 mgs) for a further 3 weeks and will see how I am then. 3 weeks in I have noticed that I dont really want to eat between meals as much and I don't seem to have cravings for sweets as much as I usually would, but again, even though I'm tapering, I am having some mild withdrawal symptoms which could affect my appetite.

Seems like we are both in the same boat . I'm on 50 mg and only taking one every 3 day.. hopefully we will both be ok when we eventually stop . The weight gains depressing isn't it 🙁

I gained 2 stone on sertraline - started taking aged 51 - it was absolutely wonderful in terms of my mental health but I could not take the weight gain. have just weaned myself off it. Brain zaps for a week or so but nothing awful in terms of side effects.

No change in my weight yet (about a month in to sertraline free life). I am gutted, honestly, as I would have happily taken it forever. I was tired all the time on it though, and now I feel a little less sluggish.

I was on 100 mg, dropped to 50 for about a month to 6 weeks, then 50 every other day for a fortnight or so, then I just stopped. It's been fine.

That's good to know . I've come off it before but wasn't on it as long . As I'm taking 50 every 3 days I might just stop now and see what happens.
I feel the same as you I can't take the weight gain and I guess I sit down and relax a lot more than before and eat a lot more than I did beforehand . Good luck 😊

The weight gain is probably the worst adverse effect for me and it's so hard to shift! I've just managed to drop 2 lbs for the first time in a year or more (currently on quarter tablet daily -12.5 mg and about to drop to every other day). I've stopped eating between meals and I'm making a conscious effort to increase my daily step count. I definitely don't have the sweet tooth I had when I was on a therapeutic dose so that helps in reducing the snacking. MH-wise, I'm feeling OK - just mild irritation for daft things like noisy eating which I'm hoping is just part of the withdrawal, or maybe I'm just not as numb to things that always irritated me before sertraline 😁
