Besides medication what helped your anxiety?

I have health anxiety which I have previously had anti depressants for (7 years ago) although they made me feel quite unwell.
I have been prescribed them again, however, I really want to try other options beforehand and wondered what has helped others?

Eating a low carb diet. When I have a high carb day or two my anxiety comes back.

Also forgot to ask has anyone taken anything such as primrose oil/fish oil and has that had any affect?

Therapy. It took a long time and was a tad costly but was life changing.
It can be done.

Going sober! Absolute life changing!

Avoiding alcohol and caffeine.

Moving to a job with less bullying.

Exercise.

Re: meds. I like propranolol. I'm not on a daily dose, just take it as and when required. I play little games with myself to see how long I can go without it. But when I need it, its great.

Therapy. CBT, DBT, intensive CBT and EMDR.
It was the EMDR for trauma which finally made a huge difference. I do still get anxiety but appropriately so.

I take care of myself and prioritise self care.

CBD has proved helpful to my son. 20mg daily makes him less worried in social situations.
For me, my mental health is closely linked to variety and movement, so breaking up the day into tasks I can accomplish gives me a boost, plus 10 minutes walking every hour helps me keep calm.

Propranolol was life changing for me.

Diazepam when things got worse.

Would go on either in a heartbeat if needed - let's hope not.

Only you know how bad you feel and what lengths you will go to.

Solgar b complex vitamins, high potency in the morning
Magnesium in the evening
Exercise. Gardening and loads of digging in particular really helps

HappyHolidai · 18/07/2023 20:22

Multivitamins and minerals
Getting a walk every day
More rest
No caffeine or alcohol
Deep breathing relaxation exercises
CBT
Improving my diet

As someone said above: a lot of self-care.

I am a psychotherapist and therapy can be a very successful way to limit the impact of anxiety

@LiberteEgaliteBeyonce what kind of therapy helped?

cpphelp · 23/07/2023 20:44

Stopping drinking alcohol was a huge difference for me

Miscellaneousme · 23/07/2023 20:47

Cutting out alcohol, caffeine and refined sugar helps me. Also regularly exercising.

I can't take anti depressants due to cancer medication but find swimming 3 times a week around a mile each time at place with sauna, jacuzzi and steam room helps massively. Also cuts reoccurrence risk 50%.

And nice days out when you can get them in helped me through chemo. Holidays too.

@LiberteEgaliteBeyonce what kind of therapy helped?

It was a psycho dynamic type. It took a awhile but allowed me to untangle deep rooted issues from my childhood.
