For all us messy mums!

Following on from the 'can't stand the mess' thread, why don't we try to encourage each other to do those awful tasks we've been putting off?

I'll start with cleaning out the guinea pigs which I do twice a week but they're a wee bit overdue. Plus I'm going to declutter the kitchen and get rid of the papers etc...

Anyone up for it?

Oh God - I wish I could - I've got so much on it's untrue. Absolutely shed loads of work - deadline next Monday and then 10th Jan (what a merry Xmas I'll be having Sad), still got presents to buy, cards to write and send, and the house....well, lets not go there!

Flumberrysauce · 13/12/2004 10:39

Everyone obviously too busy de-cluttering to reply.

My solution works quite well. Get a full time job (hence you have close encounter with the mess far less often) Infact I only notice it in evening really. Then by the time tea, bath and bed time over can't be bothered to do it anyway. Used to plan to do it at weekends but far too busy enjoing myself and being lazy.

Hence now just give myself a break, and say b*gger it let it stay like that.

If I had guinea pigs no doubt they would be rolling around in there own mess (thankfully I am far more caring about babies)

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 10:40

LOL Flum!

juniperdropofbrandy · 13/12/2004 10:41

Awwww you've got good reason not too then gobbledigoose Sad I'm a SAHM with DS1 at school and DS2 out at pre school every morning. Granted I do 3 mornings voluntary work but I could still get more done here.

I've still got presents to buy too and the cards to do. Oh well, I'd better stop procrastinating and go and see to those GPs Smile

I have to date received 12 xmas cards - 7 from stay at home mums and the rest from single people and retired.

SAHM must send xmas cards etc. !!! It is your job to keep the lines of communication open while we workers hope to h*ll that you will still be our friends when we have time to visit you sometime in 2006.

C'mon get busy with it!! Mind you I am at work and quite clearly not doing any. On second thoughts put your feet up have a cup of tea and when kids get home from school have ' Cleaning out the guinea pig lessons'. Make your home like work and DELEGATE, DELEGATE, DELEGATE

Festivepussy · 13/12/2004 10:56

Ok then, today I will write out the Xmas cards and clean out the gerbils...

5goldendillydallys · 13/12/2004 10:58

I have only received five cards
[sulk face emoticon]
but I don't know any RL SAHMs

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 11:14

But I'm a SAHM and still have no time!

Actually, I don't know if I'm classed as a SAHM or working Mum! I don't go out to work so look after kids for the full week BUT I also freelance and do this on my evenings, weekends and when children are napping/at pre-school. I get very little time to myself - especially at the mo, there is so much to do but it's also my busiest time of year for work!

Flumberrysauce · 13/12/2004 11:16

GG you are working mum. But when I was SAHM I had NO time ever. Can't think what I did as house still looked like sh*t.

I do remember MTV being involved and a number of excellent historical novels Grin

spacedonkey · 13/12/2004 11:16

what do you do GdG? You've got me all curious now

wrapmefestively · 13/12/2004 11:47

I think if you're a SAHM and have some pre-school littlies (like Gdg) then you're not going to have any time. If you're a SAHM and have school age kids then presumably you do have a bit more time to play with.

I am a part time working mum - and actually that gives me more time to be organised etc (because I do my weekly on line shopping in my lunch break at work etc). When I am at home 'solo' with my two littlies on Thursdays and Fridays I am run ragged and knackered.

Spacedonkey are your kids older now? (or am I missing something and being disorganised)

wrapmefestively · 13/12/2004 11:51

Ahhh - spacedonkey,I've just re-read and realised that your question "what do you do?" to Gdg wasn't meant to mean - 'what do you do all day to have no time if you are a SAHM', but infact you probably meant 'what do you do in your freelancing'

Durrrrr! I am so thick!

wrapmefestively · 13/12/2004 11:52

And Gdg - what do you do in your freelancing? I'm curious too now!

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 11:53

PMSL Flum!

SD - I work for my old employer who do Pharmaceutical business consultancy/market research. So they carry out projects for all the big co's - AZ, GSK, Lilly etc - projects are really varied depending on what they need to know and where the product is in it's lifestyle. Some of the research is desk research but generally they are actually talking to all types of specialists, GPs, nurses, PCT directors, funding managers etc - it's really interesting. I basically analyse the data they collect and often produce final client presentations and reports giving them recommendations for the next step they should take. Because I used to be a Business Manager for the company before I had ds1 - I get quite involved in the projects and kind of work on the whole project on a consultancy basis. Will be able to pick up a lot more once kids are at school but the company are great and let me do as much or as little as I can manage Smile

It's really hard work atm fitting it in around the kids but should come into its own when kids go to school as I'll be able to take them, drop them off and work in the middle!

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 11:54

That should read 'product lifecycle' not lifestyle!! Ha ha!

spacedonkey · 13/12/2004 11:55

Wow, that sounds interesting GdG!

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 11:57

Can't tell if that's sarky or not!! Hee hee!!

Probably not - it is interesting if you are fascinated by medicine like I am!

spacedonkey · 13/12/2004 11:58

No, I wasn't being sarky GdG, it does sound interesting

Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 11:59

Didn't think so! Smile

juniperdropofbrandy · 13/12/2004 12:08

Hi all, got back from pre school pick up and was about to de clutter the kitchen when i fell against the pooter and it came on all by itself Shock
No honestly I am limiting my time but mostly to do some crafts (card making) with DS2 and tackle the yucky papers etc...Sad

Gobbledigoose you deffo sound like a working mum to me, I'm tired just thinking of your life! I can imagine it is interesting, sounds like you have the right balance and are happy Smile
Grin Flumberry, was that b4 you had a pooter? Wink

OP posts:
Gobbledigoose · 13/12/2004 12:10

Hee hee - fell on the pooter eh! Me too, although I'm working at the same time...sort of!

juniperdropofbrandy · 13/12/2004 12:29

I wonder if it has an attraction power like a magnet? Wink

Well at least my house smells better now GPs are all sparlky, but something sad seems to be happening, one of my goldfish is spending a bit too long at the bottom of the tank Sad Their tank was cleaned at the end of last week so they're clean but something must be up?
