so my dd has just turned 20, she’s had a long history under mental health services since being quite young but the last few months she’s relapsed with anorexia after some crappy stuff happening with our family
i struggle enough to get her help at 17 last time it was extremely bad and it ended up her getting very bad like in the 50s% of her weight for height and being sectioned in hospital until she turned 18 but then they kinda rushed her discharge bc of her becoming an adult with little support, no meal plans etc and she was still severely unweight when being discharged
things were going okayish for a while but the last few months have not been great, not sure what her weight is now but she can’t be above 100lbs and is 5ft8, tried calling her mh team and gp (she’s under the mh team for other reasons) and they’ve not reallf said anything helpful - her blood tests have always come back fine even at her worst
shes been signed off work bc of other mh issues for a few months, i’ve tried speaking to her about how something needs to change or she’s just going to get worse but it’s not like when she’s a kid when i paid for everything, she pays rent, she pays for her own stuff etc
when i’ve approached the subject or on occasions she has eaten more in a day (usually she can’t have more than 600/800cals a day) or i’ve spoken to her about her eating more, in her words ‘my head gets too much and i can’t deal with it without wanting to d*e it’s not worth it’ and like she’s aware it’s bad again it’s not like she’s in denial she just gets overwhelmed and has little support from services with it, a lot of her friends have had eating disorders before and she doesn’t want to trigger them, and i don’t know how i can support like i don’t get it
basically getting to my wits end and not sure what i can do to help her

I'm so sorry that you are having to deal with this and that your daughter is struggling so much.

Is you daughter not prepared to engage with help at all?
Is there anyone else who can help encourage her to get help. Other friends or family?
I'm sorry I don't have any other advice.

💐

she’s engaging kind of with her therapy at the moment, she’s doing dbt but she often struggles to talk about stuff (or talk in general to be honest) especially to do with eating
and not sure whether it’s the underfunding but i think to get her back under the ed team will be hard unless she gets worse which obviously isn’t ideal
