I had a panic attack after coming back from holiday in April I thought I was starting to get better but the last couple of days I’ve felt so depressed and never see me ever living a normal life again . I struggle to go out and I’ve stopped driving . I did go to the local spa on Friday and that was the first time I actually felt normal and happy . I’m currently on propanalol and have weekly CBT . My anxiety stems from recent dental work and whist I was on holiday I was so worried that I would have toothache .

Hi @MP0211 - I’m in the same boat, panic attacks can cripple me. Mine is related to my DC / DHs health. I found it really cathartic to take up a hobby; I have a beautiful dog that helps me to take my mind off things when everything becomes too much. Do you have a hobby that you can revert to, especially in times of worsening anxiety? I know nothing really gets rid of anxiety but it does help to dampen down the overwhelming burden of anxiety xx

Hi @Songbird74 , thanks for taking time to reply to my post . I have been thinking about getting a dog ! I am going to join the local spa next week . I am currently off sick from work and I know 100% that I don’t want to go back to my stressful job but would like to think about going back to work but on a much lower level . I think it would give me some normality even if I did a couple of hours a week to start with . Thanks 😊

I have horrible anxiety linked to my DS' health condition. It seems all consuming at times. I had a speed awareness course this morning and it was really, really good for me to get my head into something totally different. I am working but am so used to what I am doing that it means I don't fully concentrate - also I work from home so have no distraction from the worry. It made me think that I should learn something new.

I feel for you both.

The spa and some work sound like a really good idea. Keeping occupied was one of the key things that helped my DH when he had anxiety and panic attacks. We got an allotment and working together, in the fresh air with our dog for company gave him a focus and respite during a very tough time.

He's so much more well now OP and a large part of that was due to his determination to get well....and I can sense that you have that too from your post.

It's good to read that the spa was able to show you that 'normal' is possible. I'm guessing the dental work was painful and unpleasant, which is why your subconscious mind is now scared stiff of it happening again and is keeping in at the forefront of your thoughts in an attempt to protect you. Did you get the all clear after it was completed?

Hi @Libre2 thank you for taking the time to reply to my post . I can see what you mean by concentration on something new . You get so used in doing the same job! Thanks 😊

@BunnyBettChetwynnd @Eyesopenwideawake thanks for taking the time to reply to my post. I did manage to go to the dental hygienist last week , wasn’t the best experience.

I have a meeting with occ health at work on Thursday. Hopefully they can give me support and guidance 😊
