EUPD and cPTSD - feeling helpless

Last week I was diagnosed with EUPD and cPTSD. She said she'd write to gp but won't have it as an official diagnosis as she wants me to think about it and for it to sink in due to stigma.

What stigma is this? I'm really not familiar with personality disorders and cPTSD.

No support was offered other than increase anti depressants, eat healthy, healthy lifestyle, contact a charity for therapy. She did say she appreciates it's hard to eat healthy with my disordered eating but there is no support for that on NHS. Only if it's bulimia or anorexia.

I'm feeling rather helpless and hopeless. Having read more about it it seems things can get before me but I'll struggle all the time and have to keep working hard just to function in day to day life.

I was misdiagnosed and prescribed quitapine (it didn’t have any effect on stabilising my moods or controlling my disordered eating, although, it did help me to get a good nights sleep). I have ADHD and now I have access to the right medication a stimulant controls my disordered eating, a non stimulant has stopped my emotional dysregulation.

A misdiagnosis often means women are left without the support they need and that is readily available. They also end up being pumped full of harmful drugs that have a limited impact, if any, on their well-being

My cPTSD is likely caused by my ASD and ADHD that I got no support for as a child plus CSA. No wonder I was disregulated dealing with all of that with zero understanding or adjustments made.

For anyone who thinks they might have C-PTSD I highly recommend having a look at the Out of the Storm website and forum. There's a lot of information on there. I think sometimes people's behaviour due to C-PTSD can be similar to other conditions more widely known about/understood.

I have both. EUPD & c-PTSD are actually very similar and I believe there are some professionals who believe EUPD is actually a manifestation of PTSD, i.e. they're one & the same.
Sadly, in my experience, EUPD or BPD as it's also sometimes known are very stigmatised. You only have to look at some of the threads on here sometimes. I think because some of its manifestations can be quite extreme & they're the ones you hear about, rather than the quieter ones who internalise it more.

Is private treatment an option at all? If possible, I'd look into DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) - it is hard work & can be tedious but can also be very effective for many behaviours associated with EUPD.

Nice guidelines 116 outline the preferred treatments for CPTSD and 1 Guidance | Borderline personality disorder: recognition and management | Guidance | NICE is for PTSD

DBT and MBT are the preferred psychological offers for BPD.

If you can't access this locally you could use the Choice protocol and ask to be referred to the national trauma service Service Detail - South London and Maudsley (slam.nhs.uk) although if you don't feel C-PTSD fits it might not be suitable. You could ask your GP or Psychiatrist to complete an Individual Funding Request asking for DBT/MBT as the clinical approved model for people with BPD.
