Sometimes I don't want to talk or think things through

...even in my head, about my own problems

because I seem to think stuff that doesn't mean anything, and if I pick a path to follow, it can easily be the wrong one.

I wonder how therapy works in this context, though I suppose therapists are used to doing it.

Same. Sometimes burying the issue and moving on works just as well. The more it is reflected upon create neural pathways to remember it. Not thinking about it helps to forget quicker

Not all thoughts need to be worked on or talked about. Where are you getting the impression that they do?

Some ate for noticing, and letting go past.

Thanks hoven
To give a bit of context, it happens a lot. But at the moment, I seem to have lost a lot of executive function since mum had a stroke in November. I have moved hone since then which was stressful. My new home is still just chaos.

This morning I bumped into one of mum's neighbours. He was walking up a hill, fit as a flea, with a load of shopping. He cared for his own mum for years. He runs a successful business. His wife isn't too well at the moment. He is fine about looking after her, we had fish and chips with them the other night and he had a perfectly laid table for our take away!

If I thought that reflecting on how the last few months have been would give me some drive and efficiency again, I'd do it in a heartbeat, but it won't. I just have to sort my shit out. No one is going to do it for me.

And I no longer want a listening ear because I'm sick of myself, a boot camp style person shouting at me might help more!

I've had a couple of people suggest therapy but everyone seems to be in therapy atm!

Therapy isn't just having someone sit and listen to you wanging on about your thoughts and feelings. Something like CBT is about helping to rewire learned automatic thoughts and behaviours so that we can be doing the things we want to be doing, rather than wallowing and ruminating.

I am currently having CBT and it’s about acting positively and challenging negative thoughts that aren’t correct. They purposely tell you not to go through your past problems, they focus on putting the past behind you and moving forward.

I'm revisiting Richard Grannon and the hand mnemonic thing.

I'm so dumb, I've been wondering why my brain doesn't work....this afternoon I nearly made a stupid accounting error and I realised, I should be on a full dose of meds (been on a maintenance dose for a while).

so hopefully in a couple of weeks I'll normalise.

post Covid, the doctor doesn't do a regular check with me on that, but then again, it's pretty obvious that mum having a stroke and me moving home might be situations where a full dose is needed, I really should have figured that one out myself!

thanks for listening, I find this board so helpful for those random thoughts, you know? It's a great bit of MN.
