Hi all, in the past I have tried a variety of supplements such as Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, 5htp, and anything else I have read about, all to help with anxiety and or depression. None have really worked. I am currently on ADs that also are not working. I believe I have mild to moderate form of depression and anxiety and after last nights Panorama I think I am better weaning myself off of the ADs (don't worry I will do this slowly, I haven't been on them for too long)

What I am reading with interest is vitamins such as vitamin D, iron, B9 (folate), calcium, vitamin C, and vitamins B12 and B3 could help. But where to start?

Have any of you gone down this route? Did you do any testing to see if you were deficient in anything?

Any advice would be appreciated

Try British Supplements for good quality supplements with no fillers. Quite pricey but you get what you pay for.

I just had a look at their site, it doesn’t sit right with me. A company should be able to sell its stock by positive promotion rather than by slagging off the opposition. I’ve never seen anything like it, it doesn’t just do it once either. Very strange way to try to entice people to buy.

I agree it's a bit over the top, but if you read what they are saying, the big pharmaceutical companies are shutting down their freedom of speech, all to do with money.
But that aside, their supplements are the absolute best, and no i dont work for them 😊

I'm of the mindset that less is more when it comes to vitamins.

I find helpful
Better You Vit D spray with K (K helps absorption) to help with mood (vit D is the sunshine vitamin, I really feel if I don't have enough, it is like a cloud)
Magnesium glycinate for anxiety
Not vitamin but swear by Epsom Salt baths

Sometimes I take B6 or an all round low dose B vitamin, not sure if does anything, maybe helps brain fog
Low dose Zinc for focus/immunity/at stressful times
I was thinking just to scrap the B and Zinc and take a multivitamin like Centrum. Though the zinc does help with motivation.

Re. Iron, dairy interferes with its absorption, so I try and consume red meat, iron rich foods like oats without dairy, but have with citrus fruits (vit C promotes iron absorption).

L-Theanine is good for me. I was prescribed propranolol for anxiety but I find this helps too. My anxiety was definitely perimenopause-related and HRT (gel and utrogestan) was a life-changer/saver for me.
