Sertraline and weight changes - real experiences please

Currently on week 1 of sertraline for depression and anxiety.

I’ve gone down a TikTok rabbit hole where people are posting pre and post sertraline body pictures showing significant weight gain

i was overweight and have lost 3 stone over the past 2 years and am terrified to gain it back

keen to understand people’s experiences, is it an appetite change, or a direct effect of the med?

feel like throwing in the towel with it before I’ve even begun because my body is practically the only thing I’m semi satisfied with in my life at the moment (relationships and career both being dreadful)

i gained 2 stone on Citalopram. But everyone I know on Sertraline, from teens to middle aged women have had zero weight gain and not suffered the appalling carb cravings generated by other SSRIs.

I put on 3 stone on Sertraline. Carb crazy.

Fluoxetine less so.

It was amazing for my anxiety but yes it made carbs and sugar irresistible, which is really unlike me. Couldn't walk past the bakery I walk past every day. Stuff like that. I was only on them for about 2 months. V effective but yes that was a side effect for me.

I gained 3 stones while taking sertraline. I don't think it was because of the sertraline as such, but I stopped giving as much of a fuck about things/being quite so controlling about my whole life and that translated in to a fuck it attitude towards food. I lost around a stone and a half after stopping taking it, but still got another 1.5 to go.

I went from 9st to 7.10st on citalopram- completely lost my appetite but it's back now with a vengeance.

I lost weight before I went on it as I was so stressed I couldn't eat. However now the weight has come back on but I've not gained any extra. Been on it since feb.

Same.

I've been on Zoloft (Sertraline) for a long time, and it has helped me tremendously with anxiety and depression. At the start, I did experience some mild nausea and appetite changes, but that settled after a few weeks. Now, my appetite is completely normal, and I haven't noticed any significant weight changes directly caused by the medication. I think the key is being mindful of eating habits—some people may experience increased cravings, while others might lose their appetite initially.

I totally understand your fear of gaining back the weight you've worked hard to lose, but I wouldn't let TikTok horror stories make you quit before you've even given it a chance. Weight changes, if they happen, are usually related to lifestyle adjustments rather than the medication itself. More importantly, your mental health matters, and if Sertraline helps you feel better, it’s worth seeing how it works for you.

To get the best results, I always make sure I’m taking high-quality Sertraline. I order mine from this trusted pharmacy: vitacourier.net/buy-zoloft-uk.html and always get an excellent effect. If you decide to stick with it, just give yourself time to adjust—you might be surprised at how much better you feel. 💙

Been on sertraline for 8 years, haven't gained weight but haven't lost despite multiple attempts at diets and exercising like mad.

Second Mounjaro injection today, hope this moves things forward.

But can't do without Sertraline (I immediately get depressed and with suicidal thoughts as soon as I tried to scale it down), so if Mounjaro is the solution, so be it...
