Propranolol - can you use it short term to break an anxiety association?

I’ve become extremely anxious about driving on dual carriageways (no problem before) and subsequently am avoiding them. Can a beta blocker like propranolol help to face the fear and break the association, eventually leading to not needing them?

Would be v interested to hear experiences - thanks.

They will certainly help with the feelings of panic.
Whether that breaks the association I depends on if you then stop the avoidance, and become more practiced on them instead.
Im not a fan of city driving and driving places I don’t know, but I recently had to drive to an unknown city, daily, for a couple of weeks. I was driving round there like a local in the end and was no longer feeling the panic I had in the beginning and didn’t need the propranolol before setting off.

Not sure about betablockers. I take propranolol to help me deal with my local authority SEN department and it hasn't stopped me getting triggered. However I can't get over them I only need to cope with them.

But I do think that if you want it to have that effect, it could. I do think there's power in having faith in anxiety medication in its own right.

Thanks guys, really kind and helpful replies. I’m glad you both get something from using propranolol when needed. @IncessantNameChanger That sounds very difficult re the local SEN department you’re having to deal with. I hope somehow things get easier for you Brew

@RollinRollinRollinRawhide Sounds exactly what I am hoping to achieve, to use it to help me acclimatise again!
