Positive CBT stories?

I've been offered a course (online) in cbt and I'm hoping to hear some positive thoughts. Most people I know who have had it have been very dismissive of it.
I need help and I'm interested to work at it but I was expecting talking therapy and I'm not entirely sure why I've been offered this instead. I was too upset to ask at the assessment

I've done CBT a few times. It seems to be the go-to therapy in most cases. I have mixed feelings about it. It does help, in that it gave me a greater insight into why I'm feeling certain ways.
I do find this, and some of the techniques I've learnt through doing the CBT course are helpful, and it has made a difference in how I think and process.

However, some practitioners/counsellors, etc, seem to think it's a bit of a magic bullet, and it can fix anything. Sometimes, I'll know exactly why I'm reacting a certain way and why it's wrong, but I'm too far gone to be able to stop doing it. This frustrates me so much that I wonder if I'd be better off not knowing the mechanics if you see what I mean.

But once you've learnt the reasons and the techniques, I don't see the point in future CBT courses. This is where my dislike comes in. I've done the groups, I have the CBT tools to work with, so how is it going to help to relearn it? Seems to smack a bit of "well you must be doing it wrong" rather than "maybe this isn't the correct style you need for this issue."

I recently had a bit of a regression in my condition, (personality disorder) was offered more therapy and agreed I needed some but my one proviso was no more CBT as I think I've gone as far as I can with that particular therapy.

Sorry for the ramble. But TLDR version is: Try it, you may find some of the techniques and tools helpful, but don't let them push you into doing more and more "refresher" courses, and ask for different therapy if it's not working or helpful
