Has anyone ever tried this to help with mood? I’m currently coming off Venlafaxine due to it not working along with other AD’s

Doing research into my mood, I see this highly recommended to help?

It really helped with me. What I will say is you have to take it properly - even an hour late would leave me with horrible side effects. And coming off it is an absolute nightmare, it took almost a year to wean myself off of it without debilitating head zaps.

@Ostryga i am coming off Venlafaxine at the moment. Didn’t work for me, either did another few SSRI’s.

wanting to see if methylfolate helped anyone instead? Read up that apparently it’s good but wanted to see what brand etc works best

I've been taking it for a few months now (after my brother found out that he had the MTHFR mutation which makes it likely the rest of the family do too); it's definitely helped me. Far fewer days spent in debilitating, bones-feel-like-lead depression than I used to get.
I take 15mg/day, which is the highest dose available I think, from a brand called Methylpro.

@Kandyflossclouds how are you finding the Venlafaxine withdrawal?
I'm on 350mg and want to get on something else (it literally saved my life, but the side effects are now becoming more and more distressing depressing me further).

Research has led me to believe it's like the devil's work and withdrawal is worse than crack with many wishing they never took the first pill (according to reddit).

Hope you are OK. Are you watering it down?

I have never heard of this before but since reading your post I have fallen down a rabbit hole.

It's very interesting.

@HBGKC How did your brother find out?

It seems it's widely recognised in the US. I have never heard about it in the Uk.

He paid almost £1000 for a very comprehensive full health screening/bloodwork etc, which flagged up various things including this.

Apparently if one member of the family has the MTHFR mutation it's quite likely most of the other family members will have it too.

I’m currently lowering my dose of Venlafaxine. I was on 350mg and am down to 262.5. I need to reduce to start adhd meds. I’m reducing down in 37.5mg increments fairly slowly - every 2-3 weeks I go down a bit, as I feel. So far, apart from really debilitating exhaustion (which may or may not be related) my mood has been fairly OK. I definitely suffer from emotional disregulation and rejection sensitivity dysphoria as part of my adhd so I won’t be dropping much more until close to titration.

I got my daughter tested for this via a website called Healthily.

She has this and I am hoping it explains her chronically low folic acid as well as poor response to SSRI medication.

iloveallthis · 05/08/2024 13:15

*when I say she has this I mean the MTHFR mutation
