Considering coming off citalopram to see if it helps my weight

I have been on citalopram for a few years, maybe five. I was given it for anxiety and depression. Despite the citalopram my anxiety continued to get worse and I was given propanalol, in increasing doses until I asked to go on hrt. In a very short time the anxiety cleared up and I haven’t been given propanalol in over a year. I am not yet menopausal.

Over the last few years I have put on three stones in weight. I now have a big belly, I didn’t ever carry my weight there in the past, I always had small waist. I maintained being around 9 stone throughout my twenties and thirties, getting back to a similar size fairly quickly after pregnancy in my late thirties without trying too hard.

If anything I tend to eat slightly less than I used to and my activity levels have always remained reasonable (10-20,000 steps a day, aiming to attend gym 5 x week).

In order to lose the excess weight I have tried portion control / my fitness pal; keto diet + calorie counting; milkshake diets but I have shifted very little, if any, weight each time.

I am seriously considering coming off citalopram to see if that will help me lose weight. I’ll do it under guidance and I don’t think that the depression will flare up.

Does anyone have any experience of similar circumstances?

Taking citalopram has nothing to do with your weight. It sounds more likely it's related to menopause

I am worried that you have a point. Anxiety is the only perimenopause symptom I am aware of so far. I am terrified that if 3 stone has already gone on how much more weight will I gain when I hit menopause itself?
