Anxiety…offered CBT

Due to going through various issues over the last year I finally made a GP appointment and was prescribed Sertraline (which has really helped) and as offered CBT.

Can I ask what are your experiences with CBT? What exactly is it …talking therapy…I think? Did it help?

Thanks

CBT involves helping to reframe thoughts. It takes practice but can be really helpful.

Can I ask how long it took for sertraline to kick in ?

Thank you. It starts next week.

Id say a month before I felt the benefits. I don’t want to ever come off it now.

CBT involves looking at your life as it is now rather than focussing on the past - although there may be some exploration of the history of your anxiety. It's an active therapy and your therapist will take the lead and should not just sit back and let you talk.
Your therapist will look at what kind of anxious thoughts you have - eg do you worry about things that are unlikely to actually happen? And will help you to find better ways to deal with the worries. They might look at what behaviours are keeping the anxiety going.
There are different ways of using CBT depending on the type of anxiety you have for example if you have panic attacks or social anxiety there may be some specific ways of helping with these.
There is usually something to work on or practice in between sessions. And if you commit to doing these things it will help you improve.
