Having never had the H (hyperactive) in ADHD I thought I didn’t fit the symptoms but as I have always had problems and some family have just been diagnosed I saw similarities. This may help someone and I hope it does.

Diagnosed depression and anxiety but meds not done much to help.

Poor exam results but know you are not stupid

An oversharer who tells even strangers all sorts about their life

Told they talk too much, told to be quiet

Inability to be organised or stay organised. You look at jobs that need doing but they never get done or you do half the job before wandering off.

Being a visual learner, struggling with paperwork

Unable to concentrate on novels/tv/cinema unless you are very interested

Forgot what someone has said as soon as they have said it. Poor memory in general.

I have started medication and it is life changing immediately. I feel so much more alive.

Oh I forgot to add. Over eating/gambling or another impulsive trait. Forever losing weight to put it all back on again a few weeks later.

Hello! I have just been diagnosed with ADHD as of last week. I am on day two of taking medication. First day I was up ALL night which wasn't great as I have a toddler who doesn't sleep anyway. Last night I slept a bit better.

My son who is 11 has adhd and autism (I was also diagnosed with autism too). How I wish I was diagnosed as a child. My life would have been a lot different I am sure.

May I ask what medication you are on @Yespresh?

pompomdaisy · 15/04/2023 07:53

Still trying to get my daughter an ADHD assessment. Did you wait long for yours? How is the medication life changing. I had an awful nightmare last night in which people were criticising me for getting her on medication.

QuintanaRoo · 15/04/2023 07:56

Did you get it done on the nhs or pay? I’m struggling to find a recommendation for a private company. They all seem to be closing their books even to private people

Yespresh · 15/04/2023 08:01

It was a private diagnosis via The Priory hospital. I take Elvanse 50mg.

Medication for me is life changing. I feel bright, alive, not overwhelmed all the time, can see jobs that need doing, cleaning and sorting out the hoise, finishing jobs, concentrating on tv and conversations without also thinking of other things at the same time, stopped over eating.

@Yespresh I'm in my late 50s and toting up whether to get a diagnosis. The GP asked a v quick set if questions and said in her unqualified opinion she would be very surprised if I wasn't ADD. However she then she'd what I'd do with the diagnosis.
Add to your list...
Finishing sentences as I get too impatient waiting for an answer, and
Constantly losing things
Impulse buying, then losing the receipt!

Can I ask what meds you are on and whether they are on a private prescription, and if so what it is and how much! NHS diagnosis is not possible for adults so would have to be private

Many thanks

Sorry just seen your last reply...!

Hope this might help some of you.
I'm hoping to get a diagnosis now in my early 40's. My work has a link with a private company called Ciconia. I'm about to go for a private assessment with them. Haven't done everything needed yet, so not sure of the process.
My DD is 6 and has shown signs of ADHD since 3. We had her assessed privately with adhd360 and they've been great. She's going through titration before aiming for shared care with our GP. She's on medikinet and the difference it makes is phenomenal.
I'm not aiming for her to be the smartest kid in school, just so she is at peace there and can attain what's possible for her without the drag of combined ADHD.

Hello, I got your private message. I have tried to reply and it wont go through at the moment. Not sure why. I have saved it so will keep trying.
