Obesity is killing me

I’m dying. Not physically but mentally. I am giving up on life. I cannot stop eating. Nothing can stop me. I can’t stop myself.
I weight 21st. 20 years I have been fat and getting fatter by the day. I can’t stop. I’m going to lose everything. I’m going to die from this in the long term. In the short term…I’d better not elaborate on here.

Have you been to see your GP?

HeadacheEarthquake · 07/04/2023 21:04

It sounds like you need medical help. Are you in the uk

xLuz · 07/04/2023 21:10

That sounds really hard. Is there anything you can do that stops you eating? Like having a shower? Or going for a (slow?) walk. I apologise if these suggestions are really trite. I am overweight but not obese so I don't know the extent of the issue you're facing.

Hey @Lostinplaces
Come join us on the gentle self improvement thread. We’re a sensible, supportive gang on a journey to getting better. We’d love to add you to our tribe!
sounds like you’re beating yourself up. The first thing to do is find ways to be a bit kinder to yourself, then you’ll have the headspace to tackle other stuff.

Hey, I’m just wondering if you would find it cathartic to tell your story?

Here’s mine: was a “normal” weight (top end of healthy BMI) into my teens, then went on a diet restricting calories and doing a Rosemary Conley exercise video obsessively. Lost a stone, then suddenly piled it all back on during a 2 week holiday, plus a bit more. Gained even more weight as a university student, got it down with hypnosis for a year, then put it all back on when doing final exams. A few more years of yo-yoing, then had huge health issues leading up to and during Covid, did the One2One diet, lost 2 stone, then gained the whole lot back and more, now 15st 7lb.

What gets you down most of all about your size? Have you considered bariatric surgery/injections at all?

Feel free to ignore my questions, but happy to talk if you’d like.

OP get to see your GP and ask to be put on Ozempic. I weighed 22 stone and only 5 foot, plus always hungry. I got to the point I was breathless just walking a few metres. I went to my GP and she put me on Ozempic. In first week I lost 2kg and was not hungry. The thinking about what I can eat has gone. I just don't feel hungry. I'm only on week 2 but think I'll lose another 2 kg this week. You can do this too OP. I am doing it because I think I will have to have a gastric operation if this does not work. I'm going to make it work.

HermioneWeasley · 08/04/2023 01:27

I think you’d qualify for your GP to prescribe ozempic so I’d definitely see them

Such kind replies. Thank you. I felt so dark yesterday when I started this thread. A random woman had screeched at me about being an ugly fatty in public and it must have triggered me. Things like that don’t tend to bother me.

Hello OP, we are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way.

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

We are going to move this thread to the Mental Health section shortly.

Do you have a plan or any thoughts about where to start?

Beebopdrop · 08/04/2023 10:53

Hi op. I've been where you are. One day is just clicked for me - I needed help. Dieting wasn't working so I had surgery. Saved my life. You can get through this and make changes. Wishing you the best of luck.
