Counselling to get over a physical injury

I'm looking for some advise about counselling following a cat bite and partially failed skin graft!

So in a ridiculous freak accident when I sat on the toilet lid & trapped my cats tail, she bit me & took a chunk from my shin!

I'm 3 weeks post skin graft, the hospital signed me off on Monday, the dressing is off and I'm moisturising twice per day with E45 twice per day!

But my god, I'm struggling so much, I can't make myself look at, I'm showering & changing without looking at my leg. In leggings I can see the hole in my leg just in the way the leggings fit!

I'm moisturising it but it feels very rough like it has scabbed .

It's not sore but I am tearful feel traumatised, and just can't seem to deal with this!

I'm 56, not a vain person, normally physically active and I'm telling myself l should be pleased I have a working leg but that isn't helping.

Has anyone had any counselling for something like this? What sort of counselling & did it help?

That sounds horrid. I hope you feel better soon.

Talking therapy for adjustment to any life event that impacts on sense of self is bread and butter to a clinical psychologist. Find one through the British Psychological Society. Ensure they're HCPC registered.

Thank you I will do that!
