Withdrawing from Mirtazapine

Hi,

Has anyone successfully withdrawn from mirtazapine? I'm currently on 15mg and have been for about 15 months, prescribed for post natal depression, anxiety, and insomnia. I'm in a great place and am no longer depressed, have been depression free for 12 months with no relapses. I read that tapering works well if you do it really slowly over months using it in an oral suspension that your doctor can prescribe. If anyone out there has been through this I'd love some tips. I'm a bit freaked out at the thought of switching from tablet form to liquid form as the thought of insomnia creeping back in somehow is pretty terrifying for me

Not sure I can give any tips, but I don't remember having difficulty with coming off it last time I did. (Long time ago but I think I'd remember). Tapering sounds a good idea. I believe the lowest dose is actually the best for helping sleep!

I had more issues coming off venlafaxine.

Can you talk it through with the GP to reassure you? glad to hear you are in a much better place now.

Thanks @HelloMist for taking the time to reply. It's great to hear you found coming off mirtazapine ok! So many people say it's a really hard one to come off so I'm not expecting it to be easy but it's really reassuring to know it does go well for some! Sorry to hear about your hard time coming off other ADs.

Yes I have an appointment with my GP in a couple of weeks and I'll be requesting liquid form so I can do a really slow and gradual taper and I can avoid having to cut pills
