Sertraline long term

I have been on sertraline for over 10 years. No GP has ever said I shouldnt be on it long term until yesterday. I had a routine medication review with a new doctor who said I really need to think about coming off it.
Does anyone know if its ok to stay on it for this long?!

Following as I've been on it for about the same. I flagged it up at my last medication review and they suggested I get some talking therapy. Currently doing that but it's a long process.

Following as I’ve recently been prescribed it and wondered the same.

This is my opinion aswell. I have tried coming off in the past and it just wasnt worth it.

I've taken sertraline for 25 years. I was first prescribed at 16. I've had various different SSRI meds in addition or instead but always come back to sertraline. I think I'll be on it forever. I went cold turkey about 20 years ago and the withdrawal was extreme for about 6 weeks. At that time there wasn't awareness and the GP and psychiatrist kept suggesting it was impossible to have effects for so long. I don't feel I have any mood benefit from being on sertraline but staying on it prevents the withdrawal.
