Hello all, as above really. She's struggling with anxiety in last year of uni and after a mini breakdown last week I got her to go to Dr finally and they prescribed sertraline. He warned she might feel worse before better but she feels dreadful. Can't sleep, full of anxiety nearly constantly (almost worse than before) feels sick etc. She lives a long way from us at the mo but is with good friends.
Is this normal to feel this bad? Google suggests it is but it feels like this goes against your instinct to carry on. I don't know what advice to give her. Should she check in with Dr? We are trying to find some therapy for her as well.
Absolutely any advice welcome. It's hard, this adult parenting stuff.

Normal I was the same I felt so much worse first week but settled down before 2 weeks

I was also the same when I started it.

For me, the anxiety came from taking the tablets and doing something new.

The sickness lasted about 10 days but subsided, it’s a horrible feeling in your stomach!

Your DD will get through it and it does get better.

Thank you for replies. Do you think she should tell the dr of her side effects or just plough on through?

Just mention it when the doctor reviews as they will ask about side effects. But these side effects are common and will pass

Yesbsdly normal. It is worth it. Will wear off for sure

Not taken sertraline but taken others in same group of drugs and when I had these side effects I was advised to take them in the evening as especially with nausea it doesn't effect life as much. Maybe she could ring and speak to the pharmacist who dispensed them see if changing timings of dose or actual dose would help (one I took was advised to take it in two halves 12 hours apart to reduce symptoms). It will likely depend on the half life of the drug to what's best and pharmacists are usually really knowledgeable (and more accessible). Hope she's feeling better soon.
