Suffered from depression a couple of years ago. I'm on 40mg citalopram and have 10mg of beta blockers to take when I feel I need to. I function pretty well most days and get up for work every morning BUT I really would like to just stay in bed and unless there is something planned at the weekend this is where you will find me (in bed). I also go straight to bed after work. What is wrong with me? I feel like life is passing me by and I never feel inspired or enthusiastic about anything. Do you think its worth changing meds or do I just need a big kick up the arse?

Hi OP, that’s the definition of depression. You don’t need a kick up the arse bless you. How long have you been living like this?

How long have you been on citalopram? What you are describing is depression. I was the same as you. The fact that you are still going to work is depleting what few energy stores you have. Sleep is your minds way of resting. Just do what you need to do for now and don't beat yourself up. I found when I was in 40mg I slept a lot. Once you're feeling better you can lower the dose.

This is quite common really. A person has severe depression, the anti-depressants get them functioning again but they only do so much and the person ends up plateauing in a sort of borderland between depression and recovery.

A GP is more likely to increase your dosage than to suggest a different medication. But what you might need is to address the root causes of the depression through some sort of therapy. Do you know why you became depressed two years ago?

It started with Covid lockdowns
