Catastrophising

Would ADs help with this? GP says yes but because there are times when it's ok I'm not sure I should take the plunge. I'm posting because I'm in a bad phase right now (major life changes but, honestly, I'm worried about the world and war). I can't seem to calm down and feel constantly highly strung. I think I'm looking for coping mechanisms / experiences. The GP suggests Sertraline but it won't change the things that are causing it so I'm not sure it's the right route...thanks in advance for any thoughts

Have a look at this video on anxiety - it might help you better understand what anxiety is, why you need it and how to work with it rather than fight it;

I'll try again!

This was great for everyday life events, just need to figure out how to deal with my existential catastrophising too :-)

I’m on antidepressants- have been for a long time and many different ones. On my current one I feel calmer but it doesn’t stop me catastrophising. I think you’re right and what you need is coping strategies which I believe comes from therapy such as cbt. I’ve had both nhs counselling and private with a psychologist and I personally don’t think it’s worked for me but lots of people do have success with it. Good luck, anxiety is truly awful x

Thanks, it is :-(

I'm on Setraline. Huge anxiety, mainly about work. It has changed my life for the better.

Cbt helped with mine and sertraline but with cbt I did come off sertraline for a bit (2020 set me back). There's some good stuff online. Different scenarios like if this happened but what if this happened type things. Challenge the thoughts.

A combo of ADs and CBT might be helpful. Have you tried radical acceptance or transcendental meditation? Does exercise take the edge off?

Here's another video, looks like it was made just for you 😊

Thanks everyone and for the video @Eyesopenwideawake - just woken up and I'll watch now

@JamSandle Funnily enough, I have been looking into radical acceptance but I struggle to put it into practice! Things have been much worse since I had children and I can't accept them being in danger etc if that makes sense. I just can't sit with that. Any meditation recommendations very welcome - again, it's something I would love to do but can't seem to manage. I maybe need to keep practicing
