I've just started on sertraline for depression, but I've noticed it's making me worse.. a few hours after taking the meds my mood is dramatically heightened for hours, it's making me snappy, irritable, tearful even angry. I'm supposed to be going from 50 to 100 tomorrow and I'm very nervous considering how I'm reacting on 50, I don't want to be dramatic but I almost feel bipolar like on this medication for a few hours a day. Is it normal?

i never felt worse but they did make make me feel so sick and my jaw was shaking I had to come off them and get a new medicine, my sister has been on them for years and works for her great

I’ve tried a few one of them I remember sat in my garden feeling extreme happiness amd excited for nothing crazy.

Workinghardeveryday · 20/12/2022 00:31

i have heard great things about it.

my experience however was the opposite. I took it for anxiety. Made it 100% worse. Give it time I was told. I gave it 12 horrible months. Not suited to me..

For me it’s a godsend - I’ve been in them for years, but some people don’t seem to get along with them. I tried citalopram first and felt like you do. Just awful.
Speak to your GP. A phone assessment will do. You don’t have to feel as bad as you do. It’s just about finding the right prescription and dose for you.

Honestly it took me 6 weeks to get over the side effects, but after that I really felt like the fog had lifted.

I'm sorry to hear OP. It took me many weeks to get over the side effects and I did worry about increasing the dosage. My worst fear was suicidal thoughts caused by the medication. Eventually I was able to get better and come out of the anti depressants. They do make you feel worse before it makes you feel better, it's feels like a battle sometimes tbh. Sending you love

I’ve been on and off it for years, and it’s been a great help to me. I believe it’s true that you can feel worse before you start to feel better, but worth speaking to your GP if the changes worry you.

It was the drug from hell for me, everything was worse so I got it changed
