Tips to keep a busy mind

Hi everyone.

Does any of you lovely people have any tips/advice on how to keep your mind busy? I spend a lot of time on my own at home in the evenings and on the weekend. I only have two friends, whom also have busy lives. I have my other half who I try not to rely on for company. I like to read books, spend time on Mumsnet, watch documentaries, go for walks. But there's only so many times I can go walking by myself.

Thank you Flowers

I find anything crafty where you have to follow a pattern very absorbing/distracting.

Can you knit/crochet? Easy to learn, so many tutorials on YouTube, start with a scarf in your favourite colour.

Tapestry or crossstitch are very easy, especially if you have a kit, there are lots of lovely ones available at different skill levels.

I listen to podcasts when I'm crafting, of catch up on bbc sounds, so much interesting stuff on there, all free.

I tend to have the radio on continuously while I’m awake. R4 is the general soundtrack to my domestic life.

Can’t believe I’m saying this but the New York Times play section - Wordle, Spelling Bee, Letter Boxed, etc - is a ridiculous amount of fun. Possibly mostly for the encouraging affirmations that pop up on screen - love being called a ‘Genius’! (I’m definitely not usually a “Give the old person a nice crossword” type.)

But some sort of study that involves collaborating / working with fellow students is pretty much the only thing that can replicate the total mind immersion of youthful teen reading. Take a course in something you’re curious about.
