Mirtazapine split doses

Hello, has anyone tried splitting the dose between morning and night?
I am on 30mg and take it at night but due to a few sleepless nights I think the 30mg is too activating (been on the dose for two weeks now having very slowly increased from 7.5 to 15 to 22.5 and finally 30mg.
I was thinking of trying 7.5 at night and the remaining 22.5 in the morning.
Interested to hear of experiences doing this please.

Anyone…..please.
I took 7.5 last night and went to sleep quickly but when woken about 3 hours later by partner's snoring I couldn’t get back to sleep even in a different room. I eventually took half a sleeping pill which gave me about 3 more hours sleep
I took the remaining 22.5 in the morning and didn’t feel especially drowsy throughout the day. Just tired from lack of sleep really….
I’m really at a loss here and wish I’d never started mirtazapine …..but it is helping with my anxiety and depression. It’s just my sleep that messed up.

I remember you from the Menopause forum because I, too, started taking it during perimenopause. I settled on a 15mg dose, which combined with HRT has resolved all of my perimenopause symptoms, including the anxiety that developed. What were the reasons behind your dose increases? Supposedly for some people, it becomes more energizing at higher doses, but that is not everyone's experience. You may need to consider a different medication altogether.

Hi Sharonz, I remember you too.
I increased my dose because I became depressed and anxious following a family issue/conflict.
The increase has really helped the depression and anxiety but not the sleep.

Mirtazapine is actually considered a relatively mild anti-depressant. I think it is considered more effective against anxiety than depression, but everyone's experience is different. Because the drug is milder, it tends to be successfully paired with other medications. Often resolving the anxiety resolves the sleep. Maybe you are having greater levels of anxiety than mirtazapine can address for your particular biochemistry. Some people have a more thorough response with a different drug class, like a tricyclic, SSRI or SNRI. Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic. Also, other meds can be paired with mirtazapine to help sleep, like hydroxyzine, for example. Are you on HRT as well?

Yes Sharonz I’m on estrodot patch 100mg and the mirena coil.
I am definitely less anxious since upping the mirt to 30mg.
Hoping by splitting the dose I will begin to sleep again.
I have taken 7.5 at night and 22.5 in the past two mornings.
I don’t find the 22.5 too sedating, thankfully and have been functioning as usual at work…..really hoping my sleep begins to improve.
