What counts as a crisis?

how do you know when to call the crisis team and what counts as a crisis?

getting lots of suicidal thoughts but definitely no risk right now as I’m at home on my own with my kids so can’t go out leaving them on their own.

I have a CPN but I told her I feel better when I saw her today.

just really preoccupied with planning suicide but I don’t think I’d do it, I feel like this is just attention seeking. Tried to call crisis team but hung up when they answered the phone because I’m not sure this is a crisis (I think it’s probably not and I know how busy they are)

Sorry you’re struggling. Do let your CPN know, disclose how you’re feeling, the suicidal ideation. You may need a medication review? Is there anything going on that is a trigger?Any anniversary of significant events? How is Xmas for you usually? I wish you well, reach out to the CPN. If you can’t face talking send her your mn post to read.
Take care

I think you are in crisis definitely x

Attention seeking serves a purpose. Attention seeking is basically reaching out for help from anyone who will listen. You should absolutely talk to the crisis team. This is exactly the stigma that leads to people not asking for help until they're already at breaking point. Don't be ashamed of seeking something that you need.

You don't have to be at an absolute breaking point before you call the crisis team. They even prefer it if you call them before then, so they can work with you on whatever distractions and coping mechanisms you have. It is more difficult when you have already exhausted them all.

Please try and pick up the phone again, and have a chat with them.

She has a CPN that’s the first person to be calling,a familiar staff member, she has rapport with who knows her
The crisis team are a team approach and won’t won’t know @Balloonsandroses they way her CPN will

Thank you all. I have another appointment with my CPN tomorrow - who is lovely - I just need to decide what to say to her

I would hope that anyone with a CPN has a crisis contingency plan, and that is also known to the local crisis team.
CPNs are 9-5... crisis team are for the rest.
A good CPN will make a plan for the crisis team.

Yes the named worker eg CPN will write a risk assessment and crisis plan, that is what an allocated worker is meant to do
The best contact and person to lead on this is the CPN,she knows @Balloonsandroses
CPN will know @Balloonsandroses and her baseline and best way forward.

If it's easier, why don't you consider writing it down, or drawing out some of the thoughts? Sometimes I find that helps me with finding the words...

Puffin87 · 24/12/2022 15:38

My crisis team (phone only) are not much help. I've spoken to them three times this year. None of the times was any note of the conversation ever passed on and there was no follow up.

Most recently I was told to go for a walk or read.

Catterpillarwithconverse · 24/12/2022 15:41

Can you call Samaritans in the meantime or mail them if you can't talk on the phone.

NandoReindeer · 24/12/2022 15:44

Have you previously made a safety plan with your CPN? If so, is it up to date in terms of safe places and people to call?

If you feel that you can keep yourself safe for the next 24 hrs then wait to see CPN. Write your feelings down if you can’t say them.

If at any time you feel that you can’t keep yourself safe then call crisis line and talk it through.
