Hi lm new to the thread and started sertraline 8 days ago for anxiety. Waking up throughout the night shivering and having anxiety rushes. Anyone else experiencing this? Currently taking 25mg . Aching so much too!

Hi! I’m starting it today. Always had anxiety but it’s ramped up massively since the autumn and while my counsellor is helping, it’s not enough. How are you feeling today?

Give it another few days OP, feels worse while it gets into your system but once it's in you'll feel a lot better.

Hi- can you take it post partum. I'm catastrophising, shaky and vomitting with nerves in the morning and by the afternoon I feel a little better but still anxious. Can I take this medicine? Does it work? What side affects have you had. I'm too scared to phone them GP at the moment. Getting dressed and the tiny things are overwhelming

Hi there

I have been on sertraline and I am back on it again now.

For me the first week-two weeks were tough- nausea and vomiting the first few days which got a bit better every day. The first time I was on it I also had a complete loss of appetite and total insomnia for about a week. This time round neither have happened. Both times I got night sweats, bigger boobs and I felt twitchy - all of those settled.

I take it for anxiety and could feel calmer after a week. The way it works for me is by making me less reactive and a bit numb I guess? Sounds awful but it's better than the all-consuming anxiety. My drug of choice would be diazepam as it deals with physical effects of anxiety immediately (nervous vomiting and severe muscle tension that have become serious problems in themselves for me) without the pretty awful initial side effects. But the current NHS wisdom is that ong-term off-label use of anti depressants is better than ocassional use of benzodiazepines.

To sum up, sertaline works for a lot of people but for the first few weeks you might feel physically and emotionally worse before things get better. Good luck all
