Hi,
Could someone please advise as to my rights / options regarding my son, who has been in a secure children's unit for the past two years?
The local authority tricked us into giving up our parental control, telling us it would be best for them to get him the help he needed, but he just seems to be getting worse / more distressed.

I have another court hearing within the month, where social services are recommending another six month period of care is needed. this just seems to be going on and on... We are frightened that this will continue on until he is eighteen and then will disappear into the system.
He is currently alone within the unit and is not even allowed to interact with other children.
Due to complaints that I made eighteen months ago, concerning his care at unit, I have been told that he does not want to talk to me or his mother. The only outside person he is allowed to talk to is his social worker.. unfortunately he does not like or trust her in any way.
Could someone please recommend a course of action that could help our sons situation?

Any advice kindly accepted.

Hi

I'm sorry, that sounds horrendous. I can't offer any advice on your specific situation as my child isn't an inpatient.

But...if you use Facebook I urge you to join a private group called 'Parenting Mental Health' which is full (to the brim) with parents in similar situations, I think there is a sub-group for those whose children are in-patients. You can post anonymously.
There will be parents there who can offer very specific advice.
