Does anyone else have these? They are really bloody horrible. I try to push them out of my mind when they start. I'll envision all sorts of vile scenarios where the people I love or innocent animals are being hurt etc. It's reduced me to tears before, I get that "oh no" sinking feeling of dread when I feel it starting. Really feels like a form of self harm 😕 wish they would go away

Dont push them away . Acknowledge them and know that they are just thoughts, nothing more.
It worked for me.. i get them less now and if i do get them when im particularly stressed i just think oh yeah thats not great, bugger off with you and think of a nicer thought instead

CABT unfortunately wasn't for me although I am planning on having private counselling at some point for various issues. The thoughts I have can be so, so hurtful. It makes me want to go and hug the people I love ❤️

Have you spoken to a medical professional. Sertraline can be great for helping with this. Also not all CBT therapists are the same. You might need to try a few before you find someone who suits you. I've found some NHS staff who trained in CBT to be ineffective, but old school counsellors and psychotherapists who use it were excellent.

I've had them for years I found a website years back that changed my life. It really broke them down for me to see that they are simply misfirings in tbe brain.

When you have these awful thoughts of things it's sort of like a way your brain lets you know, you don't want these things to happen and that you fear them as the reaction you give them from being horrified by them, is your brains way of saying see your don't want it to happen or too imagine it otherwise it wouldn't freak you out. That's how I see it.
I've had I think every theme going over the years and they sometimes still bother me, but they are just thoughts. Shitty horrible rubbish ones.
I've had ones like oh what if I wanted to kill someone? Obviously I don't the thought terrifies me but it's just a thought. If I'm waiting for a train I'll get one like "oh what if I just jump in front of this train and Kill myself?"
I'm not suicidal, I don't want to die Confused.
They are normal and are really common. Something like 97% of the world gets them at some point in their life.
CBT worked wonders for me and read this website too. It's a self help one and I found it Brillaint.
CBT4PANIC.com. Take care of yourself x

I suggest reading the book Brain Lock by Jeffrey Schwartz. It helped me.

I also agree that it's less about the thoughts themselves and more about how you manage them. We all get violent thoughts OP, it's part of being human, and unless you intend to act on them you can let to let them pass on through without getting too het up about them. It has taken me a long time to see it like this and I think there is a lot of information out there which makes it seem like we should eradicate these thoughts which was actually unhelpful to me as i thought I was going mad by having them. I also agree that in some cases they are almost a form of protection as they make you consider the worst case risk scenario.
