Sertraline and binge eating

Hi I have just started taking sertraline for anxiety and depression. I also have an issue with binge eating and am already quite overweight so I was worried about putting more weight on.

I have been googling and seen that sertraline is actually used to treat binge eating disorders too so I’m interested to know if anyone has found it’s helped with binge eating even though they were prescribed it primarily for anxiety/depression.

thanks 😊

I like food and big portions and I always have room for snacks etc but for the first 2 weeks in sertraline I completely lost my appetite. I could barely eat anything, which is a common side effect, but the nasty taste in my mouth also played a part. I was on it for anxiety/depression, but I suppose if it curbs your appetite for a period of time your stomach will have shrunk by then and you won’t be able to eat as much as you do now perhaps

I couldn't stop eating when taking Sertraline. I could demolish a large packet of chocolate biscuits in one go.

I gained three stone. I've come off the medication and lost one stone, but despite rigorous calorie control and fasting, I can't lose any more.

I suppose it saved my mental health, but ruined my body.

Sorry no - I've been on Sertraline for a couple of years. I've always been a binge eater and still am 🙈
No worse than before though! And my anxiety has absolutely melted away.

Have you been diagnosed as a binge eater?

Hey girl 💛 I’m on Zoloft (sertraline) too, mainly for anxiety — totally get where you’re coming from. I had a bit of a rough patch with my appetite the first couple weeks, like my cravings were kinda all over the place, but honestly it balanced out after that. Now it actually helps keep those crazy binge urges in check. It’s wild, but yeah, Zoloft can help with binge eating — not a miracle overnight fix, but it gives your brain that little extra control button, you know?

Also, just a tip — I get mine from this pharmacy: curecarry.com and the quality's been super solid. The effect is right on point and I barely get any side effects anymore, which is a huge win in my book. Hang in there, it gets better 💪 You’re doing great just by taking that first step!
