Sertraline for depression/bereavement?

Anyone any experience?

I've scrolled through a few past threads but they all seem to be about anxiety. I don't have anxiety. I'm not even sure I have depression but my family want me to try medication and this is what my GP prescribed.

I'm not a medical professional but I've worked in a GP surgery and very very often seen Sertraline prescribed after bereavements.
I've also taken it myself due to depression, not anxiety.
it worked for me.
There's also a lot of bereavement support other than medication, maybe look at
Cruse
Reading Well Books on Prescription
and local services.
Depending on your relationship to the deceased there's other services.
The bereavement support board on here is helpful too.
take care

Just been given sertraline by gp for bereavement.
it’s been a week and the overwhelming feeling of being smashed by a brick wall is beginning to fade. Massively depressed though.

@Totalcrash I'm sorry for your loss, I hope you have support, and that time helps to heal.

DS2 was prescribed it when it became clear he wasn't coping with DH's death. The way the GP described it was it will help you find the motivation to do the things that will help you e.g. counselling, socialising. It hasn't been a magic wand, but it has helped him.

I was given Amitriptyline when I lost my dh unexpectedly in our 40s as I needed help to sleep. It worked well for sleep and coping
